Background:
Founded in 1968, St Alban's aims 'to provide every opportunity for young people of all abilities to achieve self-fulfillment through enjoyable learning in a Catholic community'. As a 'popular, thriving' school, St Alban's is able to offer an 'impressively wide' curriculum. The 'tradition of the Catholic faith, high academic standards and pursuit of excellence' are all 'aspects of the school's work'. It has been a technology college since 1994 and pupils consequently benefit from specialist facilities. Beacon School status was obtained in 1998. In addition to the National Curriculum, religious education is viewed as a 'priority'. Musical and dramatic performances are staged annually and the school is proud of the record of its representative teams in football, cricket, basketball, athletic, cross country, netball and rounders. Pupils with special educational needs (SEN) receive support in class and individually and where necessary individual support programmes are drawn up.
