Background:

The school founded in 1550 and has existed on four sites in Bury St Edmunds. It is currently undergoing substantial investment in new buildings and refurbishment. The site includes a performing arts centre, an athletics arena, Astroturf, tennis courts, well-equipped specialist teaching rooms for all subjects, a car maintenance workshop, fitness centre, iraage indoor sports spaces and a healthy café. The school'serves a large catchment area in Bury St Edmunds and surrounding villages. Around 30 per cent of its students come to them from beyond the catchment area through parental choice. There are particular strengths in science, sport, arts and English. The school prides itself on emphasizing a range of skills and talents, and expects its students to get involved in sport, music, drama, community work, debating, the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, Christian union, or any other of a large range of whole school themes. All students follow the national curriculum in Year 9. At Key Stage 4 there is considerable flexibility. Some students may ten or more GCSEs, other study five, with a day per week of specialist work at the local college, plus experience. The school aims to provide a happy environment with emphasis based on developing confidence, pleasant and successful students.
